As always going into one of these movies I have ultra low expectations , if you are a regular reader you will know that I was once a paranormal investigator and tend to watch every movie that comes out related to the subject even though 98 percent of them are terrible. But Death of a ghost hunter is an exception, and I enjoyed watching it and thought it was well made and generally realistic something I really enjoy when it comes to ghost or paranormal related movies.
The special effects were kept low key and believable, which ultimately really adds to the experience and gives it a truly creepy feeling. The paranormal activity moments for once didn't make me shake my head and mumble various obscenities to myself like many of the movies in this sub genre. Although the acting was pretty typical B movie grade with this kind of movie it really didn't take away from the experience at all if anything in a way it made the supporting characters more believable as every day people.
The story was pretty cookie cutter but interesting enough to keep me entertained to the end and not shut it off mid way. This is not a mind blowing film and nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to a paranormal movie but it does a good job at being just interesting enough to make you want to see the end, which in this sub genre is something a lot of directors have tried lately and failed at.
If you're bored and have nothing better to do give it a watch especially if you are a Netflix subscriber as it is currently available via instaview and in the end I give "Death of a ghost hunter" a 5 out of 10 a good effort but not enough to make it a must watch film by any means.
5/10
