A Letter To Hollywood by: Ted "Ritualistic" Brown

Dear Hollywood,

In hopes of opening your eyes or perhaps I should say in hopes of lighting a fire under your ass to tap a creativity vein I would like to recommend you view the following movies and take notes. Please stop remaking the classic's and if you must do so take them seriously, I'm looking at you Warner Brothers who in the hell thought of casting 50 cent for a "Jekyll and Hyde" remake they should be taken out to the streets and beaten with socks filled with bars of soap. I hope these films will inspire you to reevaluate the way you see fans of the genre and will make you realize we do not want to see beloved genre films butchered they must be done with care and love or left alone.

The Roost (2005)
Directed by: Ti West
Nominated due to: Unique camera angles.

Ti West did a remarkable job with camera angles in this film, and he uses so many different ones each ultra creative and leading to some really awe-inspiring scenes. For a little extra bonus Hollywood this film is also a great example of how to blend two horror movie baddies into one film without it being completely retarded, featuring both bats and zombies as the creatures to fear.

American Zombie (2007)
Directed by: Grace Lee
Nominated due to: Imaginative twist on an old sub genre.

I was starting to lose faith that I would ever see another original take on one of my favorite sub genres the zombie flick. In walked "American Zombie" a mockumentry depicting life after we start to co exist side by side with zombies who live everyday lives. This was a very original and well done zombie flick and was a fun watch from beginning to end, not to mention a great example of how to make a fantastic mockumentry.

Last Breath (2009)
Directed by: Ty Jones
Nominated due to: Flawless crossing of multiple genres.

With "Last Breath" you get horror, drama, and romance rolled up into one tremendous and mega entertaining package a feat tried by many but pulled off by few. Take note Hollywood there can be more than meets the eye when it comes to horror films, it doesn't always have to be endless hack and slash you can also fit very deep and moving stories with in the running time with effort and skilled writing.

The Darkness Within (2010)
Directed by: Dom Portalla
Nominated due to: Successful plot twist

"The Darkness Within" is a perfect example at how to base a movie around a plot twist mechanic without it feeling tacked on at the last minute like many of your recent attempts Hollywood. Also take note of the writing quality and how it makes up for lack of budget in every way yes that's right Hollywood money and the status of the actors you hire means little to us in the end we just want to be entertained.

Blood River (2010)
Directed by: Adam Mason
Nominated due to: Combines all four subjects we covered above.

"Blood River" is what I like to call the total package film, It's been a long time since you made one of these Hollywood so let me refresh your memory. This film contains beautiful and innovative camera angles, a very original and unique take on the supernatural and the many other sub genre it successfully blends such as drama, thriller, horror, psychological, etc.., and it had a plot twist that will make you re-watch this film again and again just to make sure you missed nothing. Added bonus not covered above Hollywood, practical effects call them up on the telephone kiss and make up CG is pretty and useful sometimes but not for things that can be done with practical effects, blood and latex Hollywood remember those days? I hope so because we do and we want them back.

Sincerely,

Ted "Ritualistic" Brown
