Lights Camera Dead (2010) Review

"Lights Camera Dead" is a dark comedy that tells the tale of die hard filmmaker Ryan Black (Wes Reid), and an ever so pretentious screenwriter, Steven Dydimus (J.C. Lira), who will stop at nothing to complete their self-proclaimed zombie masterpiece "The Music Box"

Halfway through filming a fed up cast and crew quit, thus shutting down production. But not for long...the fast, efficient filmmakers devise a plan to "finish" off their flick and there will be blood!

"Lights Camera Dead" came across to me as an attempt to make a "Clerks" style horror film which sounds like a great idea, but in the case of "Lights Camera Dead" it falls short of this aspiration. Don't get me wrong this is not a horrible movie at all but at the same time it's nothing special either just your average indie horror comedy.

The humor for me was often just not funny I honestly believe this movie would of been better off to not slap itself with a horror comedy tag and left that up to the viewers to perceive because it causes one to expect it from the get go then when it turns out not so funny it seems like a real let down. This is unfortunate as the movie itself is interesting as a whole and the plot is entertaining enough that you want to see how it ends.

The acting and writing are your typical B movie grade nothing special to speak of but at the same time not terrible either a pretty average script with subpar acting with better casting this film could have been a real hidden gem.

Another problem this film suffers from is a very slow build up it took what seemed like an eternity to get to the plot line making it almost a chore to watch for moments while you're waiting to find out just what the hell it is that you're watching. Once the movie gets going it moves at a steady pace if you make it this far you're good to go as far as making it through the entire flick.

I really wanted to like this film as it sounded very intriguing but in the end its delivery fell short and left me disappointed. For the most part I found this film to be drawn out, boring, and far from humorous and would advise you to skip this one unless you're in dire need of something to watch.

On behalf of The Liberal Dead I give "Lights Camera Dead" 4 out of 10.

4 / 10
